Trouble saving Publisher file as PDF file

C

CJBookie

Once again, I'm seeking your advice and help.

I'm trying to "publish" our exhibitor handbook to our website. It is a
71,362 KB Publisher file, mostly just text, but it does have some
graphics/pictures. I have tried "printing" it to PDFConverter, but all I get
is the "install" for Adobe Reader 7.07. When I try to open the file IN
Adobe, I get error messages.

First, is this file too large? (This is my employer's idea to post it on
the website) CAN this file be changed to a PDF file?

I don't know much about PDF files, other than that I have Adobe to read
them. I have thought to save the file as an HTML, but I don't have that
option when I click on "Save As".

Am I asking too much? (I HAVE read about Publisher and PDF files, but am
not really understanding, so please forgive me if I'm bringing up a topic
that has already been discussed.)

What program are you using to make the pdf file? You may want to try a
different program, i.e., Primopdf or for the smallest file creating pdf
program, PDF-XChange.

Primopdf is free and is available at:

www.primopdf.com

PDF-XChange is modestly priced and is available at:

http://www.docu-track.com/

If there was a way for you to send me the file I would convert it to PDF
using PDF-XChange. But 71+ megs I don't think it would transfer.

If you want to try, send it to

CJBookie, If you use primopdf, use the screen setting, rather than print to
get the smallest PDF file.
www.primodpdf.com

Don, if you want to transfer large files, http://beta.yousendit.com/ works
well for files up to 2 gigs! You upload it to their servers, and it send the
recipient a link to the file to download at their pleasure...as long as it
is within a week. And it freeeeeeee...

Thanks Don! I tried it with Adobe. For some reason, the 7.07 version does
not seem to work correctly, but it's the only one I have on my computer. (Do
you always have to install it to make it work? I mean, each time I want to
use it, I have to install it - I click on the icon and it goes to the repair
or uninstall screen, then click on repair and it goes through the
installation process. Hmm....)

I'll try the Primo site you suggested. If I cannot get it that way, I may
just take you up on your offer to do it for me. ;-) Thanks!

I've experienced that when installing Adobe Reader upgrade it is best to
uninstall the existing version from your computer, reboot and then install
the upgrade.
If you don't want to download the huge Adobe Reader (25+ megs) give Foxit
PDF Reader a try. It is just over 1 meg in size and works well with a bonus
that lets you type a note on the pdf file; the free version allows you to
print the file with your added note and the costing version will save the
pdf file with your added notes.

(Makes for a tolerable download for those with dialup service).
