Unable to access Portfolio Analyzer in PWA - client settings

H-IL

Hello,

We have problems with the following error showing up on some clients when
users try to access the Portfolio Analyzer (Project Server 2003 SP2):
"Unable to access the Microsoft Office Project Portfolio Analyzer OLAP cube.
The cube may not exist, or you may not have permissions to access the cube. "

We know this is a client problem, because the same users can access the
Portfolio Analyzer successfuly from other clients.

In some cases adding the project server to the trusted site, and reducing
the security level for the trusted zone to Medium-low or low resolved the
problem.
In other cases the error still shows up with those security settings.
All clients and servers are on the same domain.
Clients run XP, have Office 2003 installed.
ActiveX control installed.
OWC11 exist.

Can someone please help troubleshoot this issue? What settings need to be
checked on the client to ensure accessibility to Portfolio Analyzer?

Thanks!

H-IL,

I've seen that an issue on computers where latest version of MDAC is
missing. Try to install MDAC on that system & then try.

MDAC 2.8 Download
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...FamilyID=6c050fe3-c795-4b7d-b037-185d0506396c

Another possibility could be due to old ActiveX control. If you upgraded SP1
or 2 and in the middle installed the ActiveX on that system, then that system
might have old ActiveX Control. Check the creation date & version of ActiveX.
It should say 2005 in it.

Try re-installing ActiveX in case you have older version there.

Let us know if that helps.

We had a similar problem. It seemed very mysterious and difficult to
solve until we learned that Portfolio Analyzer (the "cube") permissions
are not controlled by PWA. In our case, users had permissions to PWA,
but not to the cube. The solution we arrived at was to grant everyone
(well nearly everyone) permissions on the cube and then "control"
access through PWA. Otherwise, you could grant permission to the cube
for each PWA user and keep them balanced manually.

Thanks crook.
We believe our problem is not permissions related, because the saem user can
access the Portfolio Analyzer cube from one machine but not from another.
It is probably some settings on the client.

Did you install OfficeWebComponents from the ProjectServer site, or from
somewhere else?
Try uninstalling OWC (using controlpanel add/remove programs) and installing
again from ProjectServer's DOWNLOAD-folder and see if it works this time.
