Unable to run apps...

Installing from and Administrative installation point on a network
share is fine.
I'm not sure, but it could be this:
I did log into the terminal server remotely as an administrator.

So you installed Office from within an rdp session, correct?
That's something that I would try to avoid at all costs.

What you can do now, apart from uninstalling and re-installing, is
to download FileMon and RegMon from http://www.sysinternals.com/.
Run them as administrator (when no user is connected), start a TS
session as a normal user and try to run the application.

FileMon and RegMon will show you all "access denied" errors that
occur, so that you can give your users the necessary permissions on
a file-to file or Registry subkey basis.

I did log into the terminal server remotely as an administrator.
Changed into installation mode [ change user /install ],
browsed to the network share containing the the compressed image
from the MSO2k3 Pro cd, and ran setup. After accepting the EULA
and entering in the product key, I proceeded with the
installation, selecting custom - but not changing any of the
features, then completed the installation. After basically
verifying the launching of the application and installing Sp2 on
top of it, I ran 'change user /execute' and retested the
operation of the application. Administrators and unrestricted
domain users have no problem launching the application, just
restricted users.

Should I have used a different installation method for this
application. Perhaps, just login as an administrator, go to
Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs' and install from there w/
the CD as source and not a network share?

Clarence,

when you are installing, make sure you are logged in as an
ADMINISTRATOR or a USER with these previleges. Then insert the
CD in the drive and it should launch the setup automatically.
Now make sure you have selected an item alled "COMPLETE" to
indicate you want everything to run from the machine (NOT the
CD). Also, if there is a selection for users, select all users
on this PC/System.

In my case the installation was quite straight forward.

Let us know if this helped.

Regards,

Have a W2k3 TS up and running with all applications except
those from Office 2k3 Pro Suite.

After reading many posts and documents on the installation
process for O2k3
Pro, I thought I was ready to go forward. Proceeded with the
installation
as follows:

- Start > Run > 'change user /install' > OK
- Installed office pro suite w/ default options
- Completed install and launched application [OK]
- Installed sp2
- Again verified app launched OK
- Start > Run > 'change user /execute'

Logged off session, then logged back in as a user and when I
launch the application modules, I get the following error
(regardless of module):

This feature is not available. For more information, contact
your system administrator.

Admins and power users have no issue running application, only
users. Anyone run across this issue before?

Additionally, the install was from the MAPS. Is this an
issue? Also, since
I have 10 licenses w/ MAPS for O2k3 Pro, how can I possibly
install these since they are not volume licenses - just 10
individual keys?!

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Late nights and long hours really do give you a brain fart!

Turns out that I had to register the software via telephone (exceeded my
registration quota). And, although it allowed me to run under admin login
after clearing this warning, it does not since this process is
administrative, thus the error message.

Interesting that its' allowing multiple sessions to use this single
installation (or is there something special about the MAPS versions). I
surely do not want to violate any rules!

I do want to thank everyone for their assistance... Hope to be able to
return the favor to the group someday soon.

Clarence: If I understand you correctly all you had to do to clear up the
error was activate Office 2003? I am doing testing setting up my own TS and
ran into this exact issue. Not having an extra activation key to use I
haven't activated Office. Admins can run Office but not normal users.

As to your comment on multiple sessions from the one copy I believe that is
how TS is meant to work. I talked extensively with MS re: licensing and they
reiterated to me several times that to be legit I had to buy 1 copy of Office
for the Terminal Server itself. Any remote user to that TS could USE that
copy but had to have their own legitimate license as well. If I have 20 users
that want to use Office via TS I need 21 licenses--one for each user and one
for the TS itself. That means you only use the 1 TS copy for the install and
the other 20 are to keep you legal.

Cheers...

Tim,

That is correct.... Really wanted kick myself for that one...

Thanks for the info regarding the Office licensing on TS. Since I have less
than 10 users connecting to the TS, I'm legit. I did not want to violate my
MAPS agreement since this is such a great deal and package for our
company...

That is correct.... Really wanted kick myself for that one...

Thanks for the info regarding the Office licensing on TS. Since I have less
than 10 users connecting to the TS, I'm legit. I did not want to violate my
MAPS agreement since this is such a great deal and package for our
company...

Clarence: If I understand you correctly all you had to do to clear up the
error was activate Office 2003? I am doing testing setting up my own TS
and
ran into this exact issue. Not having an extra activation key to use I
haven't activated Office. Admins can run Office but not normal users.

As to your comment on multiple sessions from the one copy I believe that
is
how TS is meant to work. I talked extensively with MS re: licensing and
they
reiterated to me several times that to be legit I had to buy 1 copy of
Office
for the Terminal Server itself. Any remote user to that TS could USE that
copy but had to have their own legitimate license as well. If I have 20
users
that want to use Office via TS I need 21 licenses--one for each user and
one
for the TS itself. That means you only use the 1 TS copy for the install
and
the other 20 are to keep you legal.

Cheers...

Late nights and long hours really do give you a brain fart!

Turns out that I had to register the software via telephone (exceeded my
registration quota). And, although it allowed me to run under admin
login
after clearing this warning, it does not since this process is
administrative, thus the error message.

Interesting that its' allowing multiple sessions to use this single
installation (or is there something special about the MAPS versions). I
surely do not want to violate any rules!

I do want to thank everyone for their assistance... Hope to be able to
return the favor to the group someday soon.

Have a W2k3 TS up and running with all applications except those from
Office 2k3 Pro Suite.

After reading many posts and documents on the installation process for
O2k3 Pro, I thought I was ready to go forward. Proceeded with the
installation as follows:

- Start > Run > 'change user /install' > OK
- Installed office pro suite w/ default options
- Completed install and launched application [OK]
- Installed sp2
- Again verified app launched OK
- Start > Run > 'change user /execute'

Logged off session, then logged back in as a user and when I launch the
application modules, I get the following error (regardless of module):

This feature is not available. For more information, contact your
system
administrator.

Admins and power users have no issue running application, only users.
Anyone run across this issue before?

Additionally, the install was from the MAPS. Is this an issue? Also,
since I have 10 licenses w/ MAPS for O2k3 Pro, how can I possibly
install
these since they are not volume licenses - just 10 individual keys?!

Thanks in advance for any assistance!
