Uninstall Office 2008

How do you uninstall this junk? No templates, confusing, slow. I want to rid myself of this thing.

PS. I did not like how it disrupted my Fonts folders.

To uninstall Office, use the Remove Office tool in Applications/Office
2008/Additional Tools/Remove Office. You'll need to drag it to your desktop
first and then run it.

Take out the Office 2008 folder from Applications, and the "Microsoft"
folder from the System preferences folder.

Just for grins, smack the /Users/~/Library/Application
Support/Microsoft/Office/ folder.

That should do it!

I have the same error, if you look at the crash log it shows that the
remover is trying to access ../frameworks/ blah blah blah
This means that it has to either be run from within the Office folder
in its original place, or you need to move it into a subfolder on your
desktop and use terminal to copy the Framework directory to the
desktop... then it might run!

I ran my remover from the office folders and it *seems* to have run
fine.

For the record I am getting rid of this bloated piece of software (for
now!) as I need to run EndNote which has zero compatibility.

I had the same problem. After installing Office 2008 and trying it out, I realized it was junk. I read on this forum that you were supposed to drag the Remove Office application to your desktop to run it, so I did, and it repeatedly crashed. I ran it from it's original location, and voila- no more 2008! It's no surprise that Microsoft decided to provide a remove application- it will be very useful to all!

You can drag them to the trash, but why bother. Just don¹t start them.
Besides if they are gone, future updates to your other apps my not work
properly.

I am removing Office 2008 and reinstalling Office 2004. Previously, I let the new version remove the old. Will I have any issues in going back to it?

I have to say that I'm very disappointed with the new suite. It's a memory hog, even when I shut down most of the fonts and features.

You should run the Remove Office Tool for 2008 to take it out. The 2004
tool can't remove 2008.

The only issue is with Entourage.

Office 2004 can't read the Office 2008 database, so if you have been using
Entourage for mail, you need to export the email you need to keep to mBox
files and re-import them to 2004.

Alternatively, you can upload them all to your IMAP server if you have one,
or to your .mac account, then re-download them to 2004.

Note that you do not need to uninstall 2008. 2004 and 2008 will run just
fine side-by-side, PROVIDED that you do not run more than one version of
Entourage. If you make a mistake, you will get a really impressive lockup
:)

Hope this helps

I think using File | Export to Export the entire thing to an .rge will
let 2004 re-import the .rge and keep more stuff intact.

Good question! I would be fascinated to see the answer :)

Office 2008 installs a single folder at the System level, containing 127 new
fonts designed to work better with the new typesetting features available in
OS 10.5.

It then moves clashing older versions of those fonts to a fonts.disabled
folder in each User ID, to avoid the crashes that can be caused by
incompatible fonts.

I do not want to use my day or entourage, so i moved them to the trash as you all said. But My Day still opens up to tell me about my appointments that synced when i installed it. I don't want to use My Day, i would rather use iCal

BTW, the simple way for Microsoft to avoid this mess is if Office installed NO fonts at all and needed only the basic Apple system fonts to function correctly. Naturally, users could always add additional fonts that they wanted to use. Rather than Microsoft throwing over a hundred fonts into our folders in a confusing manner involving multiple folders.
