Messenger Crash update

Hi,

I'd like to renumber my WBS elements. When I click Projects, WBS the
renumber menu is in grey and can not be used. This happens even a new
project with only two tasks. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Darrell

Hi Darrell,

Renumbering a WBS is designed to help you renumber a custom WBS code
that you created. You would first need to create the custom code
through Project > WBS > Define Code. If you did not create a custom
WBS, the data shown in the in WBS field should update if you add/delete
tasks.

You may find that instead of working with a custom WBS the Outline
Numbers suit you. You may display the outline number next to the task
name through Tools > Options, view tab. Enable (check) the "Show
outline number."

If you prefer, you may add the Outline Number field as a separate
column. See Insert > Column in the menu.

As I noted, both the WBS (non-custom) and Outline Numbers should update
automatically.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hi Darrell,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

The renumber function only works with the customized WBS that you create.
Search Help for "renumber".

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Messenger Crash update

Julie and Mike,

Thanks for answering so quickly. I just upgraded from a previous version of
Project and was used to the WBS numbers getting out of order when I copied
large blocks of tasks for deployments. I just did a little closer inspection
and see that Project automatically adjusts the WBS numbers as I add or move
tasks in the schedule.

You've answered my question and provided vauluable insight. Thanks!

Darrell
