what do I do with .vss files?

I have some extra .vss files of templates that someone has given me. What do
I need to do with them?

I've put them in the same folder as the other .vss files I've found but when
I open visio and look in the list of shapes they are not there.

..VSS (Microsoft Office Visio Stencils) files are actually the shapes for your
drawing, to open them all you need to do is to go to File > Shapes > Open
Stencil.

Hope this one helps!

If you have a folder called "My Shapes" in My Documents then put them
in there, otherwise, create a folder of this name and put the stencils
there and add a path to this new folder in menu
Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> File Paths -> Stencils
