when opening an office document, the word folder opens back up

When I open up an office doucment (it's happened in both Word and
Excel) the folder pops back up, so you have to click on the document
again to get to it. It's not a major issue, just really annoying. If
anyone has any ideas, I would love the help.

one reason, is a bad mouse sending extra clicks when you double-click
causing the folder to receive focus again

I guess I should have said in the initial message that I have just had
to uninstall and reinstall windows 2000 on my machine. It had been
working fine until that point. After reinstalling is when it started
doing this.

With the folder open, select Tools and then Folder Options, On the
General tab, at the bottom What is "Click items as follows" set to?

Ok, try this. Select an item with the mouse, then press the enter key.
If the item opens without tripping the folder again, the mouse is the
problem.

Then there is something misconfigured or interfering as far as the
application receiving focus. It's not that the folder "opens back up"
because the "folder" is never closed. The application should receive
focus and be in the foreground with the folder in the background.
Something is interfering with that happening. Some anti-virus office
plugin perhaps? or maybe some Tweaking software? Or perhaps a malware
keylogger?
