who/what/when report

I'd like to be able to:

1. merge several projects using the same resources
2. print the who/what/when report which also shows the project, because the
merged reports are from a standard template with the same task names, so i
have triple entries with no way to differentiate them to the project

Can this be done?

[Julie] Yes, by using a resource pool file. Fellow MVP, Mike Glen has
written an excellent series of articles on MS Project. His articles may
be found at:

http://project.mvps.org/mike's_tutorials.htm

Articles number 17 & 18 give great detailed information about how to
create resource pool files.

[Julie] I'm afraid not directly. The Who Does What When report is very
limited as to what additional data can be added to the report. However,
the report is essentially the Resource Usage view. You can add the
Project field to the table (left side) of the Resource Usage view to
help differentiate what assignments are coming from what project files.
Zoom the timescaled portion as needed and then print the view.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hello Julie:

1. I created a resource pool with the three projects
2. I brought up hte resource usage view in the master resource file and
added the project name (great)
3. I brought up the Resource Usage view and is showed the resource usage by
project name.
4. However when trying to sort the view so all the tasks for a given
resource displayed, it just sorted the view alphabetically by the name field
(contains the resource name and task name, instead of displayiing the
Resource name and all tasks regardless of the project they belonged to under
that resource...

Is there a way to view the information by resource name (major), followed by
each task assigned to that resource, regardless of the project it came
from????

Thanks

Paul

Hello Paul,

I'm not sure exactly what you are trying to do. I think you are trying
to sort the Resource Usage View, first by Resource Name (alphabetically)
and then by assignment name (alphabetically) so that all assignments
which begin with "a" appear before all assignments (regardless of
project) which begin with "b".

If so, display the Resource Usage view and choose Project > Sort > Sort
By. In the Sort dialog box, select Name --this will sort by Resource
Name and then by assignment name. At the bottom of the dialog box,
deselect (uncheck) Sort resources with their assignments by project.
That should sort the assignments alphabetically without sorting by
project.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

PS - Okay, here's an odd one -- my husband's name is Paul. :-0
