Why won't my paste options apply when I change them?

After pasting text into powerpoint I try to change the paste option setting
to "keep source formatting", but as soon as I do, the paste options go away
and the text stays the same. Why can't I change the paste options?

Where are you pasting the text from? I'm pretty sure the default paste
option is to "keep source formatting," so that could be why you're not
seeing a difference -- it's already pasting with the source format.
