Word 2003 stops responding when opening doc

I tried to open a doc that I created (on this same
machine) a few weeks ago only to find that Word stops
responding when I try to open it. Eventually I see text
from the doc, but I am unable to edit it. Sometimes the
text disappears and I am left with a window "frame" with
just the title of the doc at the top of the screen,
nothing else...not even the Word menu of commands. I can
open and edit the file on my laptop. I can open some
files on the desktop computer, and some produce the same
problems.


Any ideas?

It sounds as if the document may be corrupt. See
