Word 2008 Indent Bullet with shortcut

Hi!

I want to create a list like
1. bla
1.1 blabla
2. bla etc.

With Word for windows after typing enter and tab the 2.1 bullet appears. However with Word for Mac only the indent of the text is changed but the bullet is still 3. The only way to do it, is using the indent (and unident) icons in the layoutpalet.

I have searched this forum, and the possible solutions (1) pref/edit/"Tabs and backspace set left indent" does not exist, and (2) use Cmd+T only makes the 3 also indent.

I'm sure there must be an shortcut to do this, but which one?
I hope someone can help!

Thanks,
Thomas

The key to this is nothing to do with which computer Word is on, but whether
the text has a MULTILEVEL list applied, or not.

When you go to Format>Bullets... You see a dialog with four tabs.

Outline Numbered styles have multiple levels and pressing "Tab" will adjust
the level. So do and will the top two list styles.

That's the "shortcut" -- get the correct kind of list on the text :)

Cheers

Unfortunately this doesnt work. I have selected a list with multiple levels. But pressing the Mac Tab key only indent the word and does not go to a next level :-(

Any other ideas?

Hi Thomas -

I'm not sure what "forum" you found this "solution" in but I've done several
searches of the archives in this group & can't find the advice you're
referring to. If you can cite that post I'd appreciate it.

The setting does in fact exist, but that isn't where it is. Go to Word>
Preferences> AutoCorrect - AutoFormat As You Type, second checkbox. (The
same preferences can also be accessed via Tools> AutoCorrect.)

As John noted, however, even that setting is irrelevant if you don't have a
multilevel list style applied. If you do, you can also use the
Increase/Decrease Indent buttons on the Formatting toolbar to demote/promote
items in the list as well as the features in Outline view.

OK - that's where it was in Word 2004, but it was relocated in 2008:)

Glad you got it sorted :)
