Word Documents disappear when "Hide Others" in Finder

I have a user with the following problem:

She is working in one or more Word documents (Office X), and wants to
look for something on her desktop, so she click on Finder in the dock,
and clicks "Hide Others" in the menu so she can see her entire desktop.
When she then clicks back on Word from the dock, the documents she had
open do not show up anymore; even though they're in the Window menu,
she can't access them and must force-quit Word, often with loss of
work.

What might be happening here? She's using OS 10.3.5 I believe, and may
not have updated Office, so that might be a problem, but I've been
unable to find anyone with a similar problem thus far.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

I don't know why that would be happening. Maybe someone in
<microsoft.public.mac.office.word> would know.

Download and install the latest Office X update, which is 10.1.6. It's
available from Microsoft.

If that doesn't help, remind her that Mac OS X 10.3 includes Exposé, which
allows her to see the desktop in one keypress (F11 by default). That can be
customized in System Preferences / Exposé.
