Word Temp Files On Desktop

Each time Word 2000 is launched on my computer and document files
opened/edited, temp file are created on the Windows XP deskop. When Word is
closed, the files remain.

How can I ensure these temp files are automatically deleted?

Jeff,

Try TOOLS > OPTIONS > SAVE and untick 'Always create backup copy'. While
there also check out FILE LOCATIONS to see if backups are being put on your
desktop.
