Hi John,
Thank you for the quick reply. Yes, I would like to select a group of tasks
and move them forward by three weeks. I am a novice user and I am not sure
how to drag and drop the selected group of tasks from the Gantt chart view.
Should I be using another view to do this? Thank you kindly,
JanP
JanP,
OK, it's not too hard but dragging and dropping and moving the schedule
out (tasks performed later) are two different things. I'll explain how
to do both.
To drag and drop a block of tasks to another location in the file use
this process. First, make sure drag and drop is enabled. Go to
Tools/Options/Edit tab. Make sure the "allow cell drag and drop" option
is checked. Then select the group of tasks you want to move. If the
first line of the group is a summary task you only need to select it -
the subtasks will go with it. Next place your mouse cursor over the ID
number in the extreme left hand column of the first selected row.
Holding the mouse button down, drag the group of tasks to where you want
it.
Slipping a group of tasks out depends on a couple things. If the tasks
are all linked (which they probably should be) it is much easier.
Otherwise you will need to move each task out independently. Normally
the start date of a task is determined by its link to a predecessor -
some other task that must finish before the that task can start.
However, in some cases a task (or group of tasks) is independent of
other tasks in the plan. In that case it is permissible to directly
enter a date in the Start field of the task(s). This will place a
constraint of "start-no-earlier-than" on that task. For a linked group
of tasks you only need to do this for the first task in the link chain
because the other tasks will simply respond to the links.
Hope this helps.
