Can't open files using word on Office 2003 and XP

I just recently installed Office 2003 on an XP system.
The install appears OK but when I try to open a file I
get the error "The fille (file name here) is not
available". Anyone seen this problem? I also installed on
a office 2000 system and have had no problems.
