Confining Calendar Taskbars in scheduled dates

In calendar view, my tasks (bars) appear to exceed their assigned number of
days. for example, the bar for a 1 day task that starts on monday appears in
the middle of monday and flows into part of tuesday. It looks like the task
is actually 2 days. How do I get the bars to fit perfectly into the days
without them flowing into other days?

Hi,

Assuming that this problem occurs before you have resources assigned, I see
two possible reasons:

1. Hours per day > Daily working hours of your project/task calendar (by
default 8 hours)
You can check this in Tools/Options/Calendar
Indeed when you enter 1 day, MS Project would translate this into a duration
(in hours) bigger than your working time, which would make your task roll
over the next day.
From what you explain, this should not be the case, as your task is also
starting later than you expected.

2. Default Start Time > Start working time of your project/task calendar
You can check this in Tools/Options/Calendar
When you set a date (without indicating a time), MS Project sets the time
itself. The Default Start Time is taken as default. This is often the case
when you define the project start date or a task start date. You just
indicate the date the project/task is supposed to start.
If this default start time is set later than your starting working time
(defined in your calendar), then the project will start at a later time than
your working time.
An example could be: Project starts at 10:00, but the working time is
8:00-12:00 13:00-17:00. This would mean that any task defined for one day
(assuming 8 hours per day, see above), would start at 10:00 and end only on
next day at the same time.

In real life, when you say that something starts or ends on a given date
(without indicating the exact time), the context often determines the time
you mean. When defining a start date, or setting a deadline, for example. MS
Project uses the default start and end times to set the time. Be careful
when you set a date in MS Project!

If this is not the case, someone more experienced than me will have to help.
