continuation of footnote hidden behind white space

Hi - I've got a 360-page Word 2002 document (which I need
to print asap) with multiple sections, and footnotes in a
number of these sections. MOST of the footnotes are fine,
including one that is 9 lines high. But I've got one
footnote that is problematic. It's three lines long and
the first two lines appear on the same page as the
footnote, then the third line is continued on the next
page. So far so good, but the third line is mostly hidden
behind 'white space', so I can only see about the top 10%
of each letter.

I've tried deleting then re-inserting the footnote - no
change. I've checked the formatting of the footnote and
the page, and it seems consistent with all other sections
of the document. The whole thing is set at A4 portrait
view, 2cm margins except for left hand side which is 3cm.
I have page numbers in the bottom right corner. Is the
continuation of the footnote hidden behind the footer? If
so, what can I do about it? Any help would be greatly
appreciated!

Haven't seen this before, so brainstorming.

Have you tried printing just those two pages, to make sure it isn't just a
display problem? (you have to print a range by sections, e.g., p2s3-p5s3)

Do you have any other footnotes that continue onto a second page, and if so,
do you see the same behavior?

Word uses a different footnote separator when footnotes continue onto
another page, perhaps it has gone wiggy. To test that possibility, switch
to Normal view, click View Footnotes. At the top of the Footnote page,
change the drop-down menu to Footnote Continuation Separator. Click Reset
(or manually check its formatting).

Stuart,

One possibility, following Dayo's last point: Just in case some paragraph
formatting has been applied to the footnote, select the whole footnote in
Normal view and key Ctrl-q.

If none of these work, please tell us whether the footnote continuation is
being "logically" applied by Word -- i.e., does the footnote text appear
down at the bottom of the page and there is no room for this third line, or
do you feel there is a fault that is causing the footnote to continue to the
next page?

And if the former, what happens if you temporarily delete, say, 5 lines of
text further up the page?
