Date Changes

I have a very large schedule that was originally created in Project 98. I'm
now using 2003 version, and whenever I try to update % complete based on an
older date (in order to get a planned % complete) it moves my dates out as if
it were resource balancing the schedule.

Help,
Angela

Hi Angela,

Check Tools > Level Resources. Is resource leveling set to automatic? That
would possibly explain what you are seeing.

I would also check your status date (Project > Project Information).

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Julie,
I had checked the Level Resource under tools, but that was not what was
causing my problem. I had to go to Tools/Options/Calculations.....and turn
off the automatic there. What management is trying to do with this schedule
is to manually put in %complete once a quarter. Then take that column, move
it over, and then have project calculate where they should have been at the
end of the quarter. The problem is that whenever we did this, it tried to
relevel everything not started.

Hi Angela,

Okay, thanks for the additional information. I do not suggest turning your
calculation to manual as you are defeating the purpose of using Project.

With the additional information you have provided, it sounds as though there
may be an issue between the Status Date (set in Project > Project
Information) and a setting on the calculation tab. I suggest setting your
Status Date to the end of the quarter (in the past). Enter your percent
complete information and make adjustments as needed to remaining duration.
Then use the Tools > Tracking > Update Project command and in the Update
Project dialog box use the Reschedule Incomplete work to start after
setting. This will reschedule any work not completed and tracked to Status
date.

I don't follow what you mean by "take that column, move it over" though.
Where and what are you moving?

Julie
