Default text box

Dan

I have PowerPoint 2002 for XP and I'm trying to set my
default text box but it doesn't seem to be working, unless
I'm doing something wrong. I insert a text box, type in
my text, left click on the edge of the text box, then I
right click to see the menu and select Format Text Box. I
make my changes (pale yellow fill and line color automatic
1 pt.) and then select Default for new objects. Then I
try to add another text box and none of what I had set up
for a default format is there.

Is there a way to make my text boxes the same everytime I
add one?

Thanks for the help in advance,
Dan

The fill and line settings don't seem to get set as defaults, do they? I've
never tried it, so I hadn't realized that. It sort of looks like it's by
design, but the dialog box is initiated incorrectly and that box should
actually be grayed out, because if you select Preview the option grays out
immediately.

Here are two workarounds that shouldn't be too painful. My preference is
for the first one.

1. Type all of your textboxes. Select one textbox and make the settings.
While it is selected, double click on the Format Painter (the icon that
looks like a paint brush.) Then click once on each textbox that you want
formatted the same way. Keep doing this on all slides until you've clicked
on all of them. Then click on the Format Painter once to de-activate it.

2. Select the textbox that is formatted correctly. Press Ctrl and drag it
to where you want to create a new textbox. Release and you'll have a
duplicate and it will be selected. Now you can edit it to replace the
content.
