Determining Late Tracking Tasks

I was wondering if there is a way to determine which tasks are tracking late
against their % completes. As far as I can see, Project tracks late tasks
against the baseline. What about tracking a task against a manually entered
% complete. Lets say there is a 10 day task with 5 days remaining. It
should be 50% complete, but was only entered at 40% complete. Is there a way
to filter out these tasks that are behind?

Thanks for the help,

Hi,

I hope you talk Physical % complete for the 40% because when you enter 5
days actual duration, and 5 days remaining diuration, % complete (which is
calculated from the duration values) WILL show 50%
That by the way is the clue to your filter - %complete not equal to Physical
% complete

See that is what I thought as well, but that is not what people are doing to
track their tasks. These are Fixed Duration tasks. People are manually
entering "% Complete". So if something is tracking ahead of schedule (or
more often behind), they enter what probably should go under "physical %",
but it still gets entered under % Complete. So in my original post I did
mean % Complete. What is the affect of doing it this way?

Thanks,
Brian

Hi,

Well, since for Project %complete= actual duration/(actual duration +
remaining duration), the comparison you want is utterly impossible since
Project will change remaining duration (if you enter % complete) or change %
complete (when you enter remaining duration).
Either your people accept to report differently, or you cannot do the
comparison you talk about.
Ypou to choose, I'm sorry.

Ok so I thought I replied to this, but my response did not show up. I really
did mean "% Complete". The users are manually entering % Complete rather
than tracking tasks as scheduled. When entering updates into "% Complete,"
they enter the % that should probably be entered as Physical %. Even though
they do it this way, wouldn't this show that some tasks are tracking behind
or ahead of schedule? And then there is the question. Can you filter for
tasks that are tracking behind schedule?
