Disabling Email Addresses & Websites Features from Word Document

I can't find this in the menus - probably missing it. When I enter a URL
or email address in a document (Word 97), I would like to remain as "text" -
that is, each letter can be edited - and not to pop up in blue and look like
one "word."

How to do it?

Thanks.

Dunno if weird 97 does it like this, but try right-clicking with the
mouse on the link and see if you have a choice.

I just checked both email addresses & urls in weird 2003 and a rt-clk
will popup a menu with "remove hyperlink" on it, which does what you
want.

Thanks, but 97 doesn't give any deactivation as a choice on right click.

I thought it wouldn't - earlier software wasn't usually in the habit
of giving you a "rt-clk" wish list!

I don't have a weird 97 installed anywhere, so I cannot help you much
further, except to suggest that what is now rt-clk-list used to be
pull-down-a-menu-and-find-it.

Can you highlight the link and then pull down a menu and find a
command that un-hypers it?

What do you find if you put your cursor on it and hit F1?

Wait a minute. What choices does it give, if any? You are looking
for "remove hyperlink", which is a stupid wording, but that's it.

Thanks - it was right there under my nose....
Right click > hyperlink > edit hyperlink > remove hyperlink

However, after I remove it, if I position the cursor at the end of the link
and hit 'enter', it reappears as a link. There must be a switch somewhere
in the options menu, etc., that lets the user turn off hyperlinks in all
documents?

In 2003 you just get the cursor on it then rt-clk and near the bottom
of that list there is a choice "remove hyperlink" - you don't go into
the "edit hyperlink" which is a whole nother window affair.

It goes away and stays away.

Look at yours again and see if it's the same.

Not there. Only copy, select or edit hyperlink. I still think there must
be a master switch in one of the option menus to turn off all hyperlinks in
all documents - or at least in new documents. I'll keep on looking.

Yep! I got lots of help about Word 2003 which is interesting but didn't
help me this time.
