Email backup file - can't find pst

Hi all,

I was sent a new hdd from PC company after my other was failing, but I was
able to get info off the old one by using the new hdd and dragging files
across.

I've somehow mislaid my Office 2000 discs (gutted) so instead installed
OpenOffice, but I need to get my old emails and attachments off this old hdd
before sending it back to the company.

Trouble is everywhere I've read the file is called a .pst and I can't find a
..pst file.

In say e:\documents and settings\me\application data\microsoft\outlook there
are 4 files - one is a FAV file, the other says it's a NICK file, the other a
RWZ file and the last a DAT file. First 3 files says Microsoft Outlook
Internet Settings, the last DAT file says outcmd on it.

Now I'm about to pop over to a friends house who has office installed and
thought I could take an email archive file over to see if I can retrieve
these emails (they contain pay slips that are desperately needed), but are
any of these 4 files correct for getting my emails from?

I've done a 'search' for any .pst files and my computer can't find any (and
I've checked hidden system files too).

Can anyone help before I go to my friends house for a cuppa t?

Thanks in advance

Lisa
