Excel is crashing trying to add data to a graph

I have a brand new Mac book and I have installed Microsoft office 2008. I have been using it for the first time to write a report in word and in excel to make graphs. When i add a graph, move it to a sheet and then right click and say add data excel crashes and gives the following error- this is seriously annoying and is causing me great problems please can you help me.

Has anyone found the answer to this? I crash in excel and word whenever I

Your problem statement doesn't fit the subject line ... and the message
you attached this to said nothing about Word crashes.

Crashing on two different apps is likely an entirely different problem
than the OP's...

What have you tried?

Have you installed the latest updater?

Have you, with all Office apps closed, trashed the Excel, Word, and
Office preference files?

Have you trashed your Normal template? Are you using an XL Workbook
template?

I had tried all the things you suggesetd and then I figured out that it was
the online back up system I was using: Carbonite that was causing both
programs to crash when you right click. Once I uninstalled Carbonite,
everything works fine. Carbonite has since reported that they have fixed the
problem.

I am only guessing as I do not use Mac: I have turned off Error-Reporting and
no longer get those messages.
