Existing File Doesn't Show Up in "Recent" List

When I open Excel the "Project Gallery" opens up and if I click on
recent I get a list of files and options about how recent and what
format ...

The weird thing is that I have a file I use at least once a week.
That file never shows up as a recent file -- even when I define
"recent" as "all."

No big deal but it is a bit of a pain. I just have to go into "open
other" or remember and go through finder to get the file then click it
to open Excel.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I should have said I am running Excel 2004 for Mac version 11.3.7 on a
G5 iMac using OSX 10.4.10

Hi,

The Project Gallery's Recent feature checks to see if the recently used
files are currently available before it presents them.

If, for example, the document you wanted was on a shared server or network
drive and your computer is not connected to the network at that moment, then
Project Gallery will not present the document to you.

This behavior is different from the recently used files on the application's
File menu, which shows them regardless of whether or not they are available.

Perhaps this explains what you are observing.

Same problem, but on Leopard. The file is on the local hard drive so the problem isn't that it isn't available. Word docs in the same directory show up as expected.

This is not a problem if the file was created within the search parameters. For example, If I look at the "today" items with All Office Documents selected, any word documents created and modified today show up. To the contrary, any Excel documents created today show up, but any modified today do not.

It seems that it fails to check the modified date and is instead using the created date on Excel documents.

Does anyone using a web browser have a clue what this refers to? Since
the subject line was changed, no quotation, no valid email address, and
an out-of-date reference, I haven't got the faintest idea.

I am having a similar problem with XL08 - I have set the preferences
"general" to show 7 RECENT documents in the FILE Pulldown Menu.
NONE are showing despite all the usual trials - quite, restart, reboot, etc
etc.
Any ideas anyone what I am doing wrong
Thank you

I have a hunch that you are not looking in the right place. The recent file
list does not appear at the bottom of the file menu as it did in prior
versions. Try File-Open Recent instead.
