File Not Available - more.......

I have looked a past posts and see my problem - I can not open existing or newly created files. I get "file not available".

The past post indicate a problem with Norton (Symantec) which I have installed. I have disable the real time scanning. Problem still exists

Another post indicated to disable Office Plug-in capabilities - how do you do that?

1. Open Norton AntiVirus (right-click on the Systray icon and choose this
option).

2. Click on the Options button at the top of the dialog.

3. In the Options dialog, click on Miscellaneous (menu on the left)

4. Clear the check box for "Enable Office Plug-in."

My version is Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition. The company that I work for has a licence that is extend to employees personal computers. The "options button" and "miscellaneous" are not there.

In that case, courtesy of Office MVP Beth Melton:

If Norton AV was installed at one time then the DLL for the Office
Plug-in could still be registered.

Search for : officeav.dll

If you find it then go to Start/Run and run the following command:

regsvr32 /u "<path>\officeav.dll"

Here is a KB article that provides a few additional details. It does
not include information on Norton CE but it will contain additional
details on the unregister command if you need them:

Your direction to delete the dll worked. I asked a number of very smart people included two that are full time end user support for my company. They did not have a clue

Please tell me you have found a solution for this. I began experiencin
the same difficulty after a) my subscription to Norton ran out, b)
went to work and was given a burned copy of the corporate edition o
Norton (permissible within the DoD contract), and c) I came home an
installed the corporate edition. Granted, this is some kind o
compatibility problem, but I have tried everything posted as well a
uninstalling and reinstalling MS Office to no avail
