I have a strange problem and I'm hoping someone here can help. I recently
opened a Word document with a couple graphics inserted into it and found that
I couldn't see the graphics. Instead, all I see is an empty frame where the
graphic should be. When I click on the graphic to see what it is I get a
"beep" sound. I also get the same sound when I right-click and the context
menu is missing the "Format Picture" and "Set AutoShape Defaults" items and
instead only has the "Object Properties" item, which is grayed out.
Thinking it was an issue with the graphic files, I deleted them and added my
own from an outside source and then from MS Clipart and I get the same
symptoms with any graphic content I add. In case it was a problem with the
document, I opened a new, blank document and added clipart and still, the
same symptoms.
Logging in to my system as another user, the problem is not there so I know
it's only in my profile. I also tested inserting clipart into other Office
documents and had no problems. I know I could likely solve the problem by
uninstalling Office, wiping out my profile and reinstalling as we've done
this before for another user. But I'm hoping for a less drastic solution,
since I don't mind living with the issue for a while while trying to find it.
Here are my vitals:
Office 2003, SP1
Windows XP SP2
