Header is hidden when opening a .dot template

I am running Word 2003 SP1 on Win XP.
My problem is tha I create a template that has a table in the header. I
save it and when I open the template through the new .doc menu option I
do not see my header. I am in print view and have tried all the other
types of views. If I show the header to edit it, it shows up and stays
shown like it should. I checked that my first page is not set different
in the page setup.
Is there some switch that I have fliped to not show the header? If I
save the .dot as a .doc and open it the header displays as it should.
This is confusing.

Thanks
Scott

Scott,

Two questions, can you create headers normally in any of your document?
Second, is this template for a webpage? If it is for a webpage, Word
does not show it on the screen no matter what view you are using.
Howevever, if you go to view as a webpage, it shows up.

If I save the document as a .doc the header shows up when I open it up
from the templates folder under "New" document. If I save it as a .dot
then when I go "New" document and chose templates on my PC and pick it
to open then the header is hidden. If I go show the header and close
the header editor it will stay visible. It seems to be reacting
differently when it is a .dor verses a .doc.
Crazy.....
