Headers will no longer convert to PDF format

I am using Office 2007 Word and Adobe Acrobat 8.1.2. I have several
documents that I have converted with headers before but now after adjusting
fonts in the document they will no longer convert with the headers. I need
the headers because that is where my page numbers are and there are several
document that get put together to make one large document. It's simply
easier to work with one section at a time.

This problem occurred after I had to run repair cycles on both programs due
to Word constantly running setup application and Acrobat hanging up every
other time it was used. This problem now occurs with both old and new
documents. It's not the Acrobat program that is the problem. I downloaded
and tried this with Acrobat 9 and the same problem happens. How do I make
Word allow the headers to be converted when converting the document?

I'm a little confused. Are you using Adobe Acrobat's capabilities to create
the .pdf files, or are you using Office 2007's capabilities (i.e., by having
installed the free XPS/PDF add-on for Office 2007).

If you're using Acrobat's capabilities, what happens when you use Word's own
Save as... XPS or PDF... PDF? Do the headers correctly appear that way? If
you don't have the add-in, it's available here:

Sorry I wasn't a little more clear. I'm using Acrobat to create the PDF
files. I have tried it with the XPS/PDF add-on and also with ScanSoft's
CreatePDF! program and they still create with no header. So it seems like no
matter what program I use to create the PDF it converts without headers for
the page numbers. Unfortunately, I was working late the other night when I
discovered this and now have almost 200 pages of a document that have to be
replaced so the page numbers are there. Since the header also contains info
other than just the number recreating it in Acrobat doesn't work. I have to
have the one from Office 2007 Word.

:
One other thing I forgot to mention - if I go to the Print Preview window in
Office Word 2007 the headers all disappear there too.

With the cursor in the Header, examine the Header Style, particularly the
Font Style to ensure that it hasn't got the Hidden attribute.

I must be an idiot but I still don't understand what you are talking about.
I have several hundred documents that all seem to have lost their header when
in Print Preview and converted to .pdf format. None of those documents were
touched in any way until I opened a couple to see if they were working right
- they weren't.

I don't see how to check the Header Style or the Font Style you are talking
about.

I suggest that you get someone in to help you. If you cannot do the basics,
I cannot help you further.

What I am not understanding here is how to check a "Header Style." I have
checked all of my font styles and none of them are Hidden. What I am using
for Headers is simply an inserted page number plain number 1 style at the top
of the page. Nothing I can find in there says it has a hidden attribute. I
can't tell how else I am supposed to be checking attributes since there is
nothing in the help section or anywhere else I can find that tells me how to
check header attributes. If I give you a phone number could you call and
walk me through it maybe?

In an earlier post you said that there is other information in the Headers,
not just a page number. Open the Style Pane by clicking on the little arrow
at the bottom right hand corner of the Style Gallery on the Home ribbon. Now
place the cursor in the Header. The Style Pane should show the Header style
in use. Right click and select Modify. Check the Font formatting to make
sure it is set as Hidden.

Than k you. I think you meant not set to Hidden because if I do check hidden
for the Header Style it hides all of the body as well since it's the same
font style. So, no none of the font sytles or header styles are set to
hidden but still nothing shows up in Print Preview or when converted to .pdf
for the header information.

BTW the only other info in the headers is author on odd pages and title on
even pages.

So you are using the Header Style throughout your document! And the style -
whichever it is - must be set to automatically update if changing it in the
header propagates through the whole document. Please read the section on
styles at http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/index.html.

Have you set the top/Bottom and Header Page Margins correctly?

I am using exactly the same settings that were used to create these documents
in the first place. I created approximately 610 sections of various
documents with these settings and they all converted just fine and dandy –
including the headers. It's just now that suddenly (after having to run a
repair cycle on Office) that it will no longer show the headers in Print
Preview or convert them to .pdf no matter what procedure I use to convert the
document.

The steps I use to create the headers is:

1. Insert Page Number, Top of Page, Plain Number 1
2. Position (0,0)
3. Format Page Number (set first page number of section)
4. Remove Page Numbers
5. Header & Footer Options (Different Odd & Even Pages, Different First
Page)
6. Building Blocks Organizer (insert Motion header odd/even)
7. Drawing Object Size to set space for page number
8. Format Page number to Arial, 2o, Bold, Centered
9. Insert Correct info for document title and author, set format for that.

I added that styles combo box to my ribbon and when I check the header style
in it says Normal, Twilight Main, which isn't even one of my styles.

Start Word in Safe Mode and test. From Start | Run, type in

winword /a

and press Enter. Are you able to see the Headers in Print Preview now and do
they print?

All I can get is an error message when I try to start in Safe Mode. Says
"Windows cannot find winword/a"

When I try to follow your instructions for starting in safe mode all I get
is the error message "Windows cannot find windword/a" Now what?
