How do I back up a file to a CD?

I can't find instructions on Excel's "help assistant" for this function.
When I copy the file and request "save to cd", a message returns that I am
not authorized to perform this function and to contact my "administrator".
I'm the sole user of my PC, so I should be the administrator - shouldn't I?
Help, please!
