How do I move my Project 2003 settings & macros to another compute

I want to move to another computer and move all my Project 2003 Standard
option settings, macros, views, etc. I read that these are supposed to be
stored in the Global.mpt file but that file is still dated 2003; it never
changes; copying it to another computer has no effect. Where is all this
data being kept and how do I copy it to another computer?

VBSmith,
Well, some of your setting may be in the Glabal and some may only be
resident in the individual project files where you generated them.
Generally, custom settings are stored in the Global, custom views are
stored with the file, and macros are probably stored with the file
unless you specifically developed them from the Global. Each time you
quit Project, whatever new settings you have made will be saved to the
Global.

The best way to get everything in one place is to use the Organizer to
transfer all custom items that appear when you go to Tools/Organizer and
then hit each of the tabs. If something has been customized for that
file it will appear in the list on the right. Select those items and hit
"Copy". That will move them to your Global. Do that for each tab. You
may also need to do that with more than one of your files if you have
different custom items in each file.

Once all that is done, use the Windows Search function to locate your
Global file. For Project 2003 it will be in a path starting and ending
with, C:\Documents and Settings\........\11\1033. Save that Global to
disk or to a common location where you will be able to retrieve it from
your new computer. Once you have Project installed on your new computer,
find and replace its default Global with the one you saved.

Hope this helps.

VBSmith,
Let me make a correction to my earlier post. The suggestion I made about
opening the Organizer to move custom items from your files to the Global
was probably not a good idea. Assuming you will still be opening your
old files once you get Project installed on your new computer you will
already have custom views, filters, macros, etc. stored with those
files. All custom settings, toolbars, menu items, etc. will already be
in the Global. Therefore, ignore the second paragraph in my previous
post.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

Here's the answer, I discovered today: The global.mpt file that is being
modified by Project is in a HIDDEN folder. I had Searched for global.mpt and
found only the one in the Program Files directory. That one is not in use;
as I said, it hasn't been modified since 2003. By doing a Search again with
the "Search hidden files and folders" box checked, I found the one with a
current modification date in
C:\Documents and Settings\localuser\Application Data\Microsoft\MS
Project\11\1033.
The folder
C:\Documents and Settings\localuser\Application Data
is a hidden folder, so you won't find the active global.mpt file using
Search with its default settings.

VBSmith,
You're right, I forgot that I always have my Control Panel setting for
Folder Options to show hidden files and folders. But I'm glad you got
the information you need.
