How to remove unassigned resource costs from a project plan?

Hello –
I see an “Unassigned Resource†in the Data Analysis view with $$cost
,however when I check my project plan I find a local resource called
"unassigned" but there is no work or cost against that resource.

Can anyone explain how can I get rid of the dollars assigned to the
unassigned resource?

PS: There are some other resources in the team that are added to a task but
their % allocation and cost is zero(0).

When you see the "Unassigned Resource" in the Resource List dimension, you
are seeing how Project Server 2007 accounts for every hour of work and every
dollar of cost. For example, how does Project Server 2007 show Fixed Costs
on tasks in the OLAP cube? It uses the Unassigned Resource item to document
Fixed Costs.

To track down the source of the Cost data for the Unassigned Resource, use a
Data Analysis view to to determine which projects and tasks use the
Unassigned Resource for costs. Open the project in Project Professional
2007 and then click View - Table - Cost. I suspect you will see a Fixed
Cost for one or more tasks in the project. Thus, if you are using Fixed
Costs on tasks in your projects, you cannot remove the cost information for
the Unassigned Resource in the Resource List dimension. Hope this helps.

When you asked this question, I had just written about this very topic in
our upcoming Project Server 2007 book for Project Server administrators.
The moment I saw "Unassigned Resources" in the OLAP cube, I knew that I
needed to study this topic in detail. So, thank YOU for asking a question
for which most people would not know the answer, and for allowing ME to
share the answer with you. As always, you are more than welcome for the
help! :)
