I can't restore a back up file

My system crashed , I reinstalled windows, but can't geta
backup contact list to read in outlook. The file has a
*.pst exttension, but outlook says it does not.
any help?

Did you copy the file to the hard drive and remove the read only check mark
from its properties?

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.
