Moving files

I am trying to move a .pub file from my desktop computer to my laptop. Both
have the same version of Publisher 2007. I am using a thumb drive to transfer
the file. When I try to open the file on my laptop I get a message "Unable to
open file". What may be causing this problem?

Copy the file to the laptop's hard drive and try opening again. Publisher does
not respond well to removable media.

Thanks, Mary for your quick reply. However, I have tried emailing myself the file, putting it on a CD then copying the file to my hard drive in a folder I have labeled "Newsletters" When I try to open the file from the hard drive I still get the same message "Publisher cannot open this file". Any other ideas? Thanks, Loren

Hi Mary,
Thanks for the Registry fix and Hot Fix. I've done both, but to no avail.
The error message I received after the HotFix install was: "The expected
version of the product was not found on the system". I am trying to move a
Publisher 2007 file on my desktop to the same program on my laptop. I'm not
using older or different versions of Publisher. Any other ideas? I want to
take my laptop on the road and publish my weekly newsletter while I'm away.
Thanks for your help.

I wonder if your virus software could be at the heart of this issue?

The following article is an example:

the Norton AntiVirus Office plug-in

Thanks for the printer tip. I did turn the printer on but to no avail. As you
noted in the message below there was a message when I loaded the HotFix file
that "The expected version of the product was not found on the system". Is
there something else I should be looking for? Thanks, Loren

Thanks, John, for the tip. I am using AVG for my virus protection. I did turn
it off, but that didn't help. Right now I am going step by step thru a
document from MS, article #198256 which describes about 10 different ways to
fix a file that won't open. I'm about half way thru, but still no success.
Got any other ideas?

Sorry...I don't have the answer.

I do have a couple of questions.

Can you successfully open the file from the
thumb drive on the desktop computer?

And...if you create a new test file on the
original computer...can you open it on the
laptop?

Is your system fully updated through MS Update?

Good luck finding the fix )
