multiple email accounts in Outlook 2002

Hello: I am new to using newsgroups, so this is my second
posting of the same issue. I failed to include my return
email in my first posting.

My problem has to do with Outlook 2002 on Microsoft XP.
I have set up email accounts for each of the four users
on my computer, and have had no problem. However, when I
went to set up a second email account for one of the
users, I find I am unable to retrieve emails for that
second account. My DSL provider, SBC, informs me that
Outlook 2002 has problems using more than one email
account, and that I need to contact Microsoft.

Can you tell me whether I can set up two email accounts
on my Outlook 2002, and if so, why do I appear to be
having problems retrieving emails for that second account.

Thank you for your assistance,

Rob Paral

There is no problem with it. I wonder what your provider is refering to.

Are you adding a second account of the same provider to your profile? That
is; do they use the same POP3 and SMTP server? And if so; are you sure this
is a separate mailbox and not an alias on the same mailbox?

I have 8 different e-mail accounts set up in Outlook 2002 without any
problem. Have you checked the settings in "Define Send Receive
Groups"? You can check these by pressing Ctrl Alt S and then clicking
on the Edit button.

Thank you very much for replying: The second account is
not of the same provider. It has a different POP and
SMTP address. Is that the problem?

Thanks again,

There is no reason why you should not be able to receive mail from
different POP3 accounts. I do this regularly. However, remember that
you can ususally only send e-mail through the ISP that you are
connected to. In this case you should set the second e-mail account to
use the same SMTP server as the first account. This will not be
noticable to recipients as they only see the senders e-mail address
which is set up on each account. Does this make sense?

No that's good. For the SMTP address of the account that isn't from your
provider set the SMTP address of the Internet provider instead.
