Not receiving messages or updates, not showing online

One of our community is no longer receiving any messages, workspace updates
and is not showing as being online, when in fact they are. According to the
help it seems that they are not connected to a Groove relay server. Does
anyone know how this can suddenly happen, how a user would know that this has
happened and how to correct it? (We have tried going offline and then online,
exiting Groove and restarting and also restarting the PC - all to no avail so
far.

I'd been having a problem seemingly identical to yours all day , and about 15
minutes ago it all abruptly started working, except that the affected users
still aren't showing up as online for anyone else (or vice versa). Are you
seeing anything similar on your end?

Sort of! A message that I had sent to this user suddenly goit delivered - but
I have no idea if she is on line or not. All our community are showing
offline - but whether that is true I have no idea. Where are you based? I am
in the UK (I am just wondering whether this is some kind of MS server/sevice
issue)

That sounds exactly like what happened to me, actually, with the exception
that I had the advantage of having one computer that was working and one that
wasn't in the same room, so I know my test message really did get through.

Charlotte, NC, USA. I'm actually new at Groove (university staff trying to
get it set up for students to use, and the last time anyone touched all this
was before I was even here), so I don't know how much that means other than
"pretty far away geographically."

Hmmm - very odd! I think that I am going to have to wait until people are
back at work here (currently late evening) to see what has happened. I did
also notice that I had a number of workspaces with some communications
waiting - and these have also now cleared. I will post back if all is cleared
OK. (The other odd thing was that when the user who was not receiving
anything wsa complaining, I was successfully messaging with another member of
our community).

One thing I've noticed looking at the Communications Manager is that both of
the computers where I had problems were looking for
blugro5relay.groove.microsoft.com, while the one that didn't is connected to
blugro2relay.groove.microsoft.com. If your problem machine was trying to
deal with blugro5 as well, then I suspect we've found our culprit.

Also, going to Work Offline and then going back online (just now) caused the
contact list to update and show everyone online properly.

Thanks - I will see if I can find that out tomorrow. I am connected to
blugro3 - and I didn't have problems (as far as I know). I will post back
tomorrow.

Hi there,

When you see these kinds of communications problems, it is always good to do
a work offline / online toggle. This will force a communications contact
back with the Relay and you can better determine if there are still comms
problems.

Thanks Gregg - the person did do a work offline/online toggle and also
restart but this did not work. I believe that the oerson in Charlotte NC did
the same - which is why we suspected a particular server. I have not heard
from the person in the UK who had the problem today so do not know if it is
resolved.

Hi Rose,

OK, we have not heard if there are any server problems, so let me know if
this is resolved or not. If it is not then we will continue to troubleshoot.

Nothing is coming through for me (and some of my 'groovemates' are having the
same issues), see network settings below. Offline/online toggle keeps
refreshing to the same URLs so that is not fixing the issue.

If you use one of the public Relay servers and it has a problem, there is
nothing you can do at the application end that will resolve it. Groove
associates your computer to a particular Relay; communications rely on that
association. Some large organizations administer their own Groove Relay
Server to have control over that part of the communications chain.

The quickest way to get attention for a report of a suspected issue on a
public Relay server is to submit a support incident to Microsoft. The next
best is to post in this newsgroup with a NEW post, so the person monitoring
the group that week can pick it up. There is no notification for the
newsgroup as a whole, so replies to older threads may be missed. You can also
send me a message via my blog. That will be quicker if I am at work and won't
work at all if I'm out, so the newsgroup is a more reliable avenue.

Actually my Groove came back, I received all updates that I've missed over
the past few days, and I seem to be connected again. I am also still on
bluegro5, so it seems to have been fixed. I was about to post this here when
I got a note that there was a reply in here.

Thank you for the fix and the follow up, I apreciate it. Have a nice day.

We are a small business with around 18 users on Groove. We have had problems
with some not being visible to others and as a concequence they are not
syncronising properly (or taking virtually all day to do so). When we check
we find that in every case they are all on the Blugro5 Relay. As I am writing
this, it is still very much an issue so I am curious as to what else could be
wrong if MSFT suggests that it is fixed. Is anyone else still having an issue
with this relay and is there a way round it? Is it possible to change the
relay you are connected to for example?

Any help would be gratefully received.
