Opening files

L

LJM

For the past two months I have run across an issue that I
can't seem to find a solution.

When I open Publisher files (not all but some; especially
when opening a file from Publisher when it's up and
running, though that's not the only time) I get an error
report that certain fonts that are embedded in the file
are not found. The fonts are almost always were not used
in the program and they ARE in my ...windows/fonts/
folder. When I click OK, it tells me an error has occured
and Publisher will need to be shut down.

What can I do to resolve this problem? I'm frustrated.
Thanks in advance.

What version Publisher? I don't know if these articles will help, Do you have all the
Office updates?
You receive a font cannot be loaded error message when you open a file that has many

updates, but how can I find out? Thanks
=====================================
Clicking the "Check For Updates" button at the
following site will scan your computer to determine
which updates you need. (Sorry but I am not certain
if it works for the 2000 version)

Anyway, you can still click the "Downloads for
Office 2000" option and find the available updates.

OK. I've installed all the updates. Tried to open a
Publisher File and got the message, "The font information
below shows what fonts are imbedded in your publication or
are unavailable." In the list is "Font Name: Wilke Roman;
Font type: printer; Status: unavailable". I choose OK. I
get an error message, "Microsoft Publisher 2000 Version
6.0 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are
forry for the inconvenience." It then tells me that I can
send an error report to Microsoft, insuring me that all
information sent will be confidential and anonymous. I
choose "Send Error Report" and Publisher closes.

What now? Thanks.

Wilke Roman font is available for purchase thru several sites. That may be
the way to go.

I already have it installed. In the past, I've unistalled
it and then reinstalled it and either it will still ask
for it or it will ask for another font. I've tried
repairing Publisher through program manager's "Add &
Remove Programs" and still have the same problem.

Any other suggestions?

Try this in safe mode. If Publisher opens okay and the error message is absent, you
may need to update your printer or graphics driver or both.

OK,

I started the computer in safe mode. I'm operating in
Windows XP Professional. I went to open Publisher and got
an error message: "Windows is low on memorry, or your hard
disk is full. Try closing other programs and freeing some
space on your hard disk before starting Publisher." I
can't even open Publisher in safe mode. This is absolutely
crazy. I've got 60 GB free space on my hard drive. Can't
be that. I hit control, alt, delete and there's nothing
listed in the files running in safe mode. What goes?!?

L

No. I'm running AVG, as I have for the last three years.
I've never run across this kind of problem before. I just
tried installing Publisher 2002. It doesn't tell me
anything about the font, just that it encountered an error
and it shuts down.

I'm about fed up with Microsoft. It's been over a week
that I've had to deal with email assistance. Why don't
they stand behind their product?

Also, what drivers need to be updated? Thanks.

He needs to update his drivers... If you can open the files, then it is his system
that is failing not Publisher..

Sure I can. It's not just one file, though. Many of them
do the same thing.

-----Original Message-----
Out of curiosity, can you send the file to me? If so,
send it to jl dot
paules at gmail dot com.

As for support, MS does offer it - for a fee. I believe
you'll find that
most software companies do the same thing This service is
free and that's a
very good price.

No. I'm running AVG, as I have for the last three years.
I've never run across this kind of problem before. I
just
tried installing Publisher 2002. It doesn't tell me
anything about the font, just that it encountered an
error
and it shuts down.

I'm about fed up with Microsoft. It's been over a week
that I've had to deal with email assistance. Why don't
they stand behind their product?

-----Original Message-----
Are you running Norton AV?

OK,

I started the computer in safe mode. I'm operating in
Windows XP Professional. I went to open Publisher and
got
an error message: "Windows is low on memorry, or your
hard
disk is full. Try closing other programs and freeing
some
space on your hard disk before starting Publisher." I
can't even open Publisher in safe mode. This is
absolutely
crazy. I've got 60 GB free space on my hard drive.
Can't
be that. I hit control, alt, delete and there's
nothing
listed in the files running in safe mode. What goes?!?

-----Original Message-----
Try this in safe mode. If Publisher opens okay and the
error message is absent, you
may need to update your printer or graphics driver or
both.

OK. I've installed all the updates. Tried to open a
Publisher File and got the message, "The font
information
below shows what fonts are imbedded in your
publication
or
are unavailable." In the list is "Font Name: Wilke
Roman;
Font type: printer; Status: unavailable". I choose
OK. I
get an error message, "Microsoft Publisher 2000
Version
6.0 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We
are
forry for the inconvenience." It then tells me that
I
can
send an error report to Microsoft, insuring me that
all
information sent will be confidential and
anonymous. I
choose "Send Error Report" and Publisher closes.

What now? Thanks.

Clicking the "Check For Updates" button at the
following site will scan your computer to determine
which updates you need. (Sorry but I am not certain
if it works for the 2000 version)

Anyway, you can still click the "Downloads for
Office 2000" option and find the available updates.

Go to the manufacturer's web site, not Microsoft. Update your video driver and the
printer driver.
