personal folder files

I was given a disk that contains pst.files. I saved the
information onto my C drive. I clicked on Outlook, went
to open and selected my personal folder files. Once there
I selected the location and the file and went to open it.
An error message popped up stating the "properties for
this information service must be defined prior to use".
Then it tells me I don't have permission to open this
file. I'm not sure what this warning means.
Any suggestions would help me greatly.
Also the person who created this disk stated it should be
able to open in Outlook 2000, though I know they have
Outlook 2003 on most of their computers.

When you open Outlook, click on File, then choose
Import/Export, choose Import from another program or
file, scroll down and choose Personal Folder File.pst,
and choose the location from where you saved it on your
computer and follow it thru......Tina

Or, you might have to check the file attributes. When you
copy a PST file from a disk, it's usually set to read-
only. I hope this helps.

If the PST was burned to a CD it's automaticly changed to read only. right
click > properties and uncheck read only (after moving it to the hard drive)

No! Never use Import when it's avoidable.

The OP's problem is that, after copying the PST to the hard drive, she
didn't remove the Read-Only attribute. Outlook needs read/wriet access to
the PST. Once that's done, a simple File>Open>Personal Folders File (in
OL2000) or File>Open>Outlook Data File (in OL2002, 2003).

A bigger problem is:

If the PST was not created as an Outlook 97-2002-format PST, no amount of
manipulation will allow it to be opened by OL2000.
