Problem with editing Task Dates

MikeRMT

I sometimes get Tasks in a plan that seem to have uneditable properties
following leveling. For example I have a Task with:
start date of 12/01/09,
Actual Start of 12/01/09,
8 hours work,
100% work complete,
100% complete,
Fixed Work,
0 levelling delay
start ASAP,

.....but a FINISH of 9/06/09 and Preleveled Finish of 9/06/09.
Clearing Leveling does not adjust this date and I cannot edit manually.

I get this type of problem a lot with projects after applying levelling
several times and it is the cause of most leveling overallocations. Is there
a way i can resest these tasks without having to insert a new task, copy
values and delete the original each time?

Thanks for your wisdom

A bit more info. A common theme with problem Tasks are that they all have/or
previously had remaining work. Project does not seem to be able to solve the
leveling of any remaining work. It all gets assigned to the next available
day for Task priority.

Hi Mike,

Yhsi could be a question of the tasks being fixed duration, in which case
changes to (remaining) work can lead to units higher that the resource's
maximum units, and indeed, Leveling cannot handle that.

There may be (several) other causes, and I hate the guesswork.
Send me the file (jandemesATprom-ade.be) and I'll diagnose.

A task that's 100% complete cannot be edited. You've told the software,
"It's done, and it started on date x and finished on date y and took this
many hours and cost this many dollars". If it's done, none of that can
change. To edit it you have to reduce the %complete to 99 (or less), then
eidt, then make it 100% complete again. However, even with this workaround,
you may not get what you want. There are other relationships involved here
that come into play, especially when you start messing with a task that's
nearly done.

Hope this helps in your world.
