Publisher says no printer . . . Word prints fine

Apelles

I just installed a new printer on a network. It prints fine from a hardwired computer from any application. It also prints fine in Word only from a wireless connected laptop.

HOWEVER, when I try to print from Publisher on the laptop, I get a "no printer installed" message. Remember, the laptop prints in Word . . .

Any ideas?

The printer driver is either out of date, or the network printer is
incorrectly installed.

Publisher and all graphic layout programs are substantially harder on
printer drivers than other programs, hence why Word prints and Publisher
does not.

Check the website of your printer manufacturer for a later version of the
printer driver, and get your network printer installation checked.

There are no known printing issues in any versions of Publisher.

Try installing a local printer (set it to print to File:, choose a generic
printer like the HP LaserJet 5L) and then printing.

Thanks to both. I will try these suggestions.

FYI: It is a brand new Bother 3820 CN, which is network
ready and I am having no issues other than this oddball
one.

Was that a Freudian slip - or intentional? ;o)

So what do you think is a good printer?

Simple, in laser printers Kyocera and in inkjet printers Canon.
What is more, both brands are the cheapest to operate and environmentally
better than all other brands.

HP besides being poor quality equipment, or also environmental vandals of
the worst type.

It would be nice to take credit for a nifty pun like that, but it was just a typo.

BTW, what exactly makes a Canon more environmentally friendly than an HP or any other printer?

What in Hades made you think that?! Canon and HP are two unique brands.
Neither produces for the other - never has, never will.

Canon do make HP laser printers, but I did not mention Canon laser printers.
I would not recommend one of them or be stupid enough to buy one.

Have a look at the Kyocera website www.kyocera.com and go to their laser
printer page.

HP have the print head all contained in the ink cartridge which all gets
thrown away. Canon only has a tank of ink with a separate print head.

Which is why my last Canon had to go - the print head died, and it was
virtually impossible to get a replacement head.

So both of them feature throw away ink containers, and the ink may or may not be an environmental problem.

The HP disposable print head is made of what? Metal? Metal and silicon? Neither of which is toxic.

There appears to be no appreciable difference environmentally between the two that would justify your description of HP with respect Canon.

I see. You mean like Mitsubishi and General Motors are separate brands

You are probably right about there being no relationship between HP and Canon, but it would not be only because they are separate brands. In fact, exactly who made your computer? A single brand? Since when

Those days have been over for decades

Yes there is, absolutely, as you did not go to the Kyocera website for the
laser printers.

Why have to recycle metal if you don't have to. With Canon you don't.

Ed with an antique guy like you, you had the first model Canon that was ever
made.

Stop whinging and wining like the damn Blitishers.

I have a lousy American made diesel engine I cannot buy valves for and
having to get them especially made.

I have an American made aircraft I cannot buy parts for the -11 engine.

Thankfully I will never ever buy any more American made aircraft or diesel
engines.

Buy decent gear now made in Brazil, Japan, Taiwan, China or India that you
can get great service life and parts.
