Safe to delete duplicate audio file after updrade?

I have just upgraded my OneNote 2003 files to the OneNote 2007 Beta. When I
do so, I get duplicate files for all of the audio files that I created as a
recording within OneNote 2003. There is a file in the root directory of the
notebook as well as a duplicate file within a directory called
"root_onefiles".

My audio files are really large and I'd rather not duplicate all of them on
my hard drive. I tried to delete all the files within the "root_onefiles"
directory and then I couldn't play back any of the audio. But when I deleted
the audio file within the root directory itself, everything seems to work OK.

Does anyone know if it is safe to delete those duplicate files or if it will
cause problems later on?

Do the duplicates disappear if you go into Tools, Options, Other,
Optimize all files now?

Patrick,

No. The files don't disapper if I optimize all files. I still have a .WMA
file in the root directory for the section group, and a duplicate .WMA file
in a subfolder called "root_onefiles".

You can try to delete the ones you found save to delete. Make a backup
first and if ON still works correctly and your audio still plays, then
I'd say you can do that.

Odd enough:
The WMA files are not even deleted from the directory if one deletes
the sound object on a page.
They just pile up in the pages's directory and numbering is continued
[grrrhh].
And what's really bad in so far is that each sound-clip on a page gets
the *same*name* for the object in ON and no way to rename the stuff.
So one can not even make an educated guess on which WMA file might be
obsolete and which would still be in use.

Killer features for reliably using ON for taking sound notes ...

This field IMO would have urgently be looked into.

Embedded files (which includes audio) have duplication problems in B2 as
per one of the posts from Microsoft here.

If it would be only that!
Problem goes ways deeper: naming of the clips inside ON and
corresponding file names.
