Saving Excel files to Read/Write only folders

I need to save Excel files to a folder on the server that is Read/Write only,
not modify. This is not a problem with Word, but Excel creates a temp file
as soon as you type a file name in the save as box. This temp file has
nothing in it, but because it was created you cannot then save the original
file as the file does not have modify options. We cannot open the modify
option since we do not want saved files messed with. Does anyone know of a
work around other than saving to a desktop or other device and transferring
the file into the folder from there?

That's the way excel works.

When excel saves the file, it saves it as a temporary file with a funny name (8
characters--no extension) in the same folder.

If the save is successful, xl will delete the original (or rename it to its
backup name (like "backup of book1.xlk)) and if that's successful, xl will
rename the funny named file to the original's name.

I think you'll have to make a decision--either not use that folder for excel or
change the permissions so that excel can work ok.
