Saving files

I do a lot of work reviewing papers or files and then saving them.

When I save a file (File, Save), the initial default is to an odd folder, such as a subfolder within a 'Temporary Internet' folder.

While it is not a critical issue, it is frustrating and time consuming when doing a lot of work.

Is there a way to setup WORD to default to saving in another file?

Thanks for any suggestions.

(I don't have Word open right no so this is from memory.) There is a place
under Tools- Options where you can change things like default folders. Have
you tried that yet?

Tools > Options > File Locations - you can designate any folder you
like; at least that's how it is in Word 2002.

From earlier problem solving tests:

The 'Tools-Options-File Locations-Default Folders is where Word starts. All
other/later File Open/File Save refer to the latests opened/saved file
location. Hence a web document stored in a temp folder (by IE or whatever)
causes next FileOpen/File Save to start in the temp folder.
Sloppy programming by MS.

If the file you're working on was an attachment to an email, and you open it
from your mail client, you're actually working on a copy in some cryptic
temp folder. When you click Save As, Word doesn't revert to the folder you
want, even if you have designated this folder in Tools, Options. It's a
design defect.

Furry nuff; I've never used Word that way. Thanks for the info Doug.

Thanks
Guess there's not much I can do. (As long as that's the situation so be it.)
One would think at the cost of the package it would cover 99%

One solution is to map the correct folder to a network drive letter. In
other words, map "My Documents" (or whatever folder you want) to something
like M:. Then, when you do a Save As, hit the home key, which will take you
to the beginning of the file name. Then, simply type M:\ and hit Enter. The
only problem with this solution is that Windows XP (mine, at least)
sometimes refuses to let me map certain folders. I suspect it's something
I'm doing wrong, but maybe not.
