I have a combobox on a form that has customer name and their primary key
(plus some other stuff)that the users drops down to select a record to edit.
If the user begins to type the name, the CBX steps toward the right person as
expected. When the user selects to CREATE A NEW record I set the combobox to
-1 to deslect any existing CBX records so the user can only enter new data
into the form into the blank record, starting with the new customer name...
so far so good.
There has been some instances where NEW files come in but for an OLD customer
which isn't known by the person doing the entry so they inadvertantly create
a new customer record.

I'd like to provide early warning of this and am looking for suggestions.

One of the options I considered but don't know how to do would be;
-as the person is entering the name in the new records NAME field use the
characters as they are entered there to cause the existing BCX to drop down
and stepwise display any existing names just as if they typed them into the
CBX (to see any possible matches that might be coming up).
[ie as each char is typed into the new NAME field, force that char into the
CBX making it step through it's records ]

Would appreciate feedback on this possibility or other possible suggestions
