Sometimes the position of images in Word move when I place them in

T

I am using Publisher 2000 and word 2000.

I am using word to write a text book.

Word has the dreaded jumping images problem.
The images move all over the place.

I get around the dreaded jumping images problem in word
by creating one page documents and using the header as
a place to put my images.

The header acts as another layer and my images stay put.

Now I would like to put my one page word files together
into a publisher document.

Sometimes when I place word documents the images move
when they appear in publisher.

The return of dreaded jumping images.

This is one of the files that does not place well into publisher.

If I am really lucky then this is the same problem as the one I just
posted --- it is something to do with the fact that I am not able to
paste things that are outside the printable area of my word files.
But perhaps it is just a microsoft problem.

There will be formatting loss when importing Word files into Publisher. They
are two completely different formats.

In other words I am stuffed.

I only considered using Publisher since I thougth I would be able to paste my
Word files.

With the awful way that Word files jump all around Word I should have known.

I am going to have to start from scratch it seems.

Thanks anyway,
Tim

If you are running Publisher 2002 or 2003, there is a File > Import > Word
Document feature (Publisher 2003 has improved this feature) which might work
better for you.

And if you select your image in Word, right-click, format picture, layout tab, choose
any wrap but in line with text the jumping pictures will stop.

No it won't.

If you have in-line positioning, you can predict when the pictures will
jump. When you alter text above or directly to the left of the picture, the
picture will jump, as it is treated like any other part of the text.

If you have relative positioning, then Word has a habit of cocking things up
completely and spontaneously making pictures jump around when you add
another picture or edit some text.

This has been aided a little in Word 2002 and later with drawing canvases,
but it is still a mess.

The way to have gone on this issue would have been to start in Publisher
straight away - Publisher doesn't make images jump :)

On the other hand, if you have images and you want to position them, you can. Word is
not a page layout program, but you can work with images, not as easily as with
Publisher, but if it is all you have... In the advanced layout you can position them
absolutely, uncheck move with text and so on...
