Task for the entire duration of the project

How would I add a "Project Management" task to my project such that it
starts on the day the project starts, and ends on the last day of the
project (ends with the task 44)?

I tried putting in 1SS in the predecessor for my Project Management task -
that works fine...
But, when I change it to "1SS, 34FF" (implying start with Task1, End when
the last task #34 finishes), it resets the start & finish date to match
those of task 34.

Any thoughts on how you would do this?

It's a common misconception that SS link means the tasks start at the
same time and FF link means they finish at the same time. In Project,
SS means that the successor task can start no sooner than it's
predecessor. With FF, the successor can finish no earlier than the
predecessor.
To create your PM task that spans the project, simply copy the start
date of the first task on the project and do a Paste Link into the
start date of the PM task. Do the same with the finish date of the last
task on the project. It's called a "Hammock" task.

I try the solution, but seems that it only work for task which is Fix
Unit and Effort Driven. Am I right on this ?

I don't recall having tried it on the different types of tasks. Has
work already been completed on this task? If so, that might effect
making it into a hammock task. I'm not at a computer where I have
Project installed, so I can't test it out. Someone else probably can.
I'm pretty confident that on a task with 0% complete, it will work on
any task.
