Totaling tasks

I apologize, I'm new to MSP- so this could be something easy that I just
can't seem to do. I am using MSP to track our projected work load for 2006 -
each column is a week and I have several hundred tasks set up (I have to file
a report via a gantt chart). I need to find an easy way to track how many
tasks are active in a particular week. Example - task 193 runs for four
weeks in January - for each of those weeks, how many other tasks are also
running? I've got to project how much revenue we can expect in a particular
week, what resources we'll need, etc.

Thanks in advance.

JenW,
Welcome to the "wonderful world of Project". There are several ways to
display selected tasks but for your particular case probably the easiest
method is to apply the Date Range filter. Go to Project/Filtered
For/Date Range. The Date Range filter can also be used on the Task Usage
view. That will enable you to see weekly values for the tasks in the
range, assuming the timescale is set for weeks.

Since you are new to Project you might want to take at look at FAQs page
of our MVP website at:
http://www.mvps.org/project/faqs.htm
There are answers to many common questions. While you're there try the
Links and Downloads page. Fellow MVP Mike Glen has a nice series of
Project lessons and techniques.

Hope this helps.
