Why do I get extra copies when trying to delete files?

Each time I try to delete unwanted files from "my Documents" by using Del
while holding the Ctrl, multiple copies are made filling my folder with these
hundreds of copies.

Usually when you do anything in Explorer with the Ctrl key held you are
telling it to copy. So click and drag with the Ctrl key down and the
selected file is always copied.

Take your finger off the ctrl key before deleting. Shift+Delete deletes
without copying files to the recycle bin.

I still get copies in 'My Documents" . Is there a way to do multiple
deletions without getting these unwanted copies.

Take your finger off the Ctrl key before pressing delete. If that doesn't
fix it post in a Windows Explorer group.

You're either trying to go too fast or holding the mouse too gingerly and as
a result accidently moving the mouse slightly as you click or before
releasing the mouse button after clicking one file before going on to click
and select the next one. Even the slightest movement of the mouse while
holding down both the mouse button and the <control> key tells Windows to
copy the selected files. Make sure you keep the <control> key down but
release the mouse button *before* moving to highlight the next filename you
want to select. I like to let the curve of the mouse nestle completely into
the palm of my hand and keep the weight of my hand on it as I click the
buttons to insure it doesn't move slightly from the pressure on the button.
Holding the mouse delicately doesn't work very well.

Thank you, i think that is the problem. I also found it helpful to turn off
my Norton antivirus program while I am doing large numbers of deletions. I go
off line when i do it

Hi Paulus,

Try not holding Ctrl key! This newsgroup is specifically for matters
dealing with Microsoft Project. I suggest you try to find a more
appropriate newsgroup that deals with Windows problems.
