Word Standard Formatting Menu

P

Pkumble

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) Processor: Intel Up until just recently, when every I open Word or a Word file, I see my standard formatting tool bar. Now, this does not appear. I pull down the View menu, Toolbars menu, and Standard IS clicked. I unclick it, pull it back down and re click it and I can see the tool bar. I have to do this for every file now and every time I open Word. In Preferences, I can't seem to find a default toggle for this. What gives? I am using MacBook Pro.

You've been hit by The Toxic Blue Jellybean!

At the top far right corner of the window, there is an oblong control that
glows blue if you hover over it.

Apple has never seen fit to document this, label it, or even put a tooltip
on it. We have no idea why they like it so much.

It turns off the user interface. Hides all your toolbars.

Click it again and they will come back!

Cheers

You've been hit by The Toxic Blue Jellybean!

Or perhaps, "The Lozenge Of Confusion".,
or "The Vitamin of Irrationality".
It certainly got me during the first few weeks
that I started using Mac applications!
Sort of a "Minimize-poser"-kind of thing.

Mac apps can be really confusing in this way.
When you click the (+) or (-) buttons,
you're never really too sure of what's going to
happen. iTunes is a classic case.
Clicking (+) actually MINIMIZES the app,
but not completely... and the blue jellybean
isn't even on the UI.

I rate Windows superior in the window management
and control department in general!
