WORD X crashes soon after calling it. The following is
part of the content in the "Microsoft Word.crash.log":

Date/Time: 2003-08-20 13:08:57 -0400
OS Version: 10.2.6 (Build 6L60)
Host: Jose-Ubillas-Computer.local.

Command: Microsoft Word
PID: 385

Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)
Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE (0x0002) at 0x00000000

The rest of the Office applications, EXCEL, POWERPOINT
and ENTOURAGE are working as expected. Before the
update, all Office applications were working fine,
including WORD.
after installing update 10.1.4, WORD present the behavior
explained above.

Anyone with ideas what could be? The installation was
followed it as explained in the installations guidelines
provided by Microsoft.

Hi Jose,

I don't know what's causing these crashes with 10.1.4. It's been reported a
few times, but most people seem to be okay with the updater.

First thing to try is using Disk Utility First Aid to repair permissions:
Go to Macintosh HD/Applications/Utilities. Open up Disk Utility. Select
your hard disk, then click the First Aid tab. Click the button to "Repair
Disk Permissions".

Also, try a reboot.

If none of this works and no one has a better suggestion, I recommend a
removal/reinstall of Office. Here's the basic procedure:

The Remove Office tool is located in the Value Pack folder on the Office X
CD. Install it and run it. Also don't forget to install any Value Pack
items you need. Now reinstall Office X using the installer on the CD or do
a Drag & Drop to the Applications folder. When you've finished, you'll need
to download (<http://www.microsoft.com/mac/download/>) and install the
Office X 10.1.2 & 10.1.4 updaters. Then run Disk Utility First Aid again to
repair permissions.

Before uninstalling Office, you might want to back up various files. See
here for backup suggestions: <http://www.entourage.mvps.org/backup.html>.

Hope this helps.
