Can't capture text from image data file.

I recently found some information that I used the PRTSCN button to capture
and saved in a windows document file. I would like to delete the pictures
and keep the word text. Currently there does not seem to be a way to access
the words in this file? I currently have Office XP2002-SP3. Is there a
resolution to this problem?

you might want to get an OCR software which creates text based on the
picture.

Thanks, you have opened my eyes to a whole new world of image processing
possibilities. It appears that I might already have a potential OCR reader
in ABBY FineReader 5.0 Sprint. This package appears to be offered as an
software addition of my new scanner the Epson 1670. It does seem lopsided in
the amount of current type of documents that it can recognize such as "TIF,
BMP, JPEG" I think there might be some current convertes for MS .doc files
that can convert from the doc format to one of the popular image formats. If
you know of any reliable converters I would appreciate the feedback. Thanks
again . . .

The windows capture should have been saved in MS Paint or similar program as
a BMP, TIF or JPG that FineReader can recognize. If it is saved as an image
in Word (Edit, Paste) you won't be able to read it with the OCR software.

To do this, start Paint (located Start/Programs/Accessories). Minimize
Paint. Start the application you want to capture and then push PrntScrn on
the keyboard when you have your image. Expand paint to the desktop and hold
Ctrl and press the V key to paste the image into paint. Save as a BMP or
TIF image (preferably as a B & W image, not color) Open your OCR software
and see if it can read the image.

To do screen captures, I use a free, easy to use product called Screen
Hunter 4 free from
http://www.wisdom-soft.com/products/screenhunter.htm.

Allows you to set a default incrementing file name for repeated captures to
the location you specify on your hard drive or just to the clipboard. You
can also set it to capture the entire desktop, the active window or an area
you select (which is great for capturing text without graphics.)
